Fold 7 Review: Thinner, Lighter, Smarter
Samsung introduced this phone line in 2019. The first version, the Galaxy Fold, immediately gained popularity but also quickly received significant negative feedback.
The main issue was a protective film on the screen that looked like the disposable plastic layer that new devices often come with. Many people peeled it off, only to realize later that it was a crucial part of the screen itself. The screens would get damaged, and the display would fail, leading to a lot of negative reviews for Samsung.
Another problem was the folding mechanism, which would get damaged over time and wasn't designed to withstand frequent opening and closing. Given the high price of the device, the public's negative reaction was completely justified.
Since then, Samsung has released five more versions of the phone, each one improving upon the last. And just recently, they introduced the new Fold 7. The Fold 7 is the thinnest version to date, showing that Samsung is definitely committed to creating the best foldable phone possible.
At the end of last month, the highly anticipated Fold 7 officially hit the market — and it didn’t disappoint. The new foldable immediately caught the public’s attention thanks to its noticeably thinner and more elegant design.
When folded, the Fold 7 is just 8.9 mm thick, and when unfolded, a mere 4.2 mm. That’s a significant leap from last year’s Fold 6, which measured 12.1 mm folded and 5.6 mm unfolded. If you’ve held a Fold 6 before, the difference is instantly noticeable — Fold 7 feels more refined and futuristic in the hand.
Weight-wise, the Fold 7 also makes a smart cut. It now weighs just 215 grams, making it 24 grams lighter than its predecessor — a small but very welcome improvement for everyday use.
Bigger Display, Same Brightness
The display got a nice upgrade too. You now get an 8-inch screen with a resolution of 1968 x 2184 pixels, delivering a crisp 368 ppi density. Just like the Fold 6, the new model supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and reaches a peak brightness of 2600 nits — perfect for both bright outdoor use and vivid video playback.
Camera Upgrades — Front and Back
This time, Samsung didn’t hold back on the camera. The Fold 7 features a flagship-grade 200MP main sensor, a massive jump from the 50MP camera found in the Fold 6. On the front, the selfie camera also got an upgrade — now 10MP with an f/1.8 aperture, compared to the previous model’s modest 4MP sensor. This means significantly better clarity, especially in low-light conditions.
Next-Gen Power Inside
Under the hood, the Fold 7 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750), built on a 3nm process — meaning faster speeds, better battery efficiency, and improved thermal management. It’s paired with the new Adreno 830 GPU, now clocked at a whopping 1200Hz, making it ideal for gaming, multitasking, and high-performance use.
What Didn't Change?
While the Fold 7 pushes innovation in many areas, battery capacity remains unchanged, and the maximum charging speed is still capped at 25W. In a world where many flagships offer 45W or even 65W fast charging, this might feel underwhelming for some power users.
