Xiaomi is already planning a widespread entry into the automotive industry. The brand's history began with its big steps in the smartphone market. Its MIUI operating system, which is based on Android, gained immense popularity first in China and then beyond its borders. Today, Xiaomi is a world-renowned brand and consistently ranks in the top 5 of the smartphone market, a position it achieved through competitive pricing and quality.
In addition to smartphones, Xiaomi produces a variety of accessories and gadgets. The success it achieved in the smartphone market opened up a wide range of possibilities for this Chinese brand, allowing them to create numerous electronic devices. Currently, this major brand is making bold moves in the automotive industry. In 2024, it launched its first car, the Xiaomi SU7, the brand's first sedan. The standard model has an official range of 435 kilometers, while its Ultra version has 391. The latter is a performance model with three electric motors, generating 1500 horsepower.

With this model, Xiaomi took its first step into the auto industry, and today we will discuss its second model and first SUV, the YU7. It's worth noting that Xiaomi announced they received 200,000 pre-orders in the first three minutes, which is a record high, especially considering the brand is just starting to make big moves in the automotive industry. Due to this achievement, Xiaomi plans to expand beyond China and bring its cars to other countries.
At TekAndGlory, we believe that these steps by major brands, particularly Chinese electric giants, will lead to a further decrease in car prices. Japanese, American, and European models will face significant competition, and we should expect further price reductions from them to compete with these Chinese giants. It's important to note that many people still don't fully trust Chinese brands. While these cars are sold at very good prices, they haven't been tested over time and don't have the reputation that would make buyers prefer them over Japanese, European, or American car brands.
However, Xiaomi is already a well-known brand, and despite having only produced electronic devices until now, its success in the automotive industry is clearly imminent. The company has stated that Xiaomi will enter the European and Australian markets by 2027.
Now, let's review the specs and versions of this SUV. The model will be sold in three versions in China. The standard model is equipped with a 235 kW motor and, according to the brand, will have an average range of 800 kilometers, which is quite impressive. Its Pro all-wheel-drive model will have a 365 kW motor and an average range of 750 kilometers on a single charge. The third variant, the Max model, will have a 508 kW motor with all-wheel drive, and it is the performance version of this model, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds.
These specs are quite good, but these cars are already known for being fast and efficient. The real question is how well these cars will handle tasks in real-world conditions, what their off-road capability and durability will be like, as that's what every buyer is truly interested in. No one wants a 1000-horsepower car that often breaks down.
As Xiaomi promises, these cars will charge from 10% to 80% in 15-20 minutes, which is very good. I can tell you that even with an internal combustion engine car, you might spend 15 minutes filling up the tank. If the charging time for electric cars is reduced to this timeframe in real-world conditions, then we can say that long-distance travel will no longer be tiring for electric car owners.
This Xiaomi SUV model will be a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, and if we look at its average range, Tesla definitely has something new to think about. We should expect further price drops from Tesla to actively respond to the high competition. you can check article about Telsa here.
As for the Xiaomi SUV model, its prices are distributed as follows: the standard model will cost around $35,000, the Pro version $39,000, and the Max version $46,000. For now, these cars are only available in the Chinese market, but we will soon see them in other markets as well.
