Buying a PS4 in 2026: Is the Console Still Worth It?

Gaming is developing interestingly in 2026, and after so many decades, we will see Rockstar's new franchise, GTA 6. However, its release will traditionally happen on consoles, so naturally, interest in consoles has grown. Because of this, of course, Microsoft and Sony are expecting huge profits, but it seems everyone has forgotten the once true leader of consoles, the PlayStation 4.

Today, I want to talk about how I bought this console, what pleasant surprises I encountered, and how worth it is to play on it. My relationship with PlayStation began back in the PlayStation 1 era. Back then, this console was no longer new, but it was a pleasant gift from a family member. Then there was the PS2, which was a legendary console, and the PS3, which truly took a huge step forward in graphics. By the way, if you haven't read it yet, there is already an article on our website about the PS3 and whether it's worth buying.

As for the PS4, I always wanted to buy a modern console that could play new graphical games and, most importantly, exclusives. Plus, my goal was to build a collection. For this exact reason, I often checked the prices of this console on local online second-hand markets. One quiet evening, I came across my favorite PS4 model, the PS4 Slim, which was newly listed on the market and had a quite pleasant price: $130. It came with one original controller and the necessary cables as usual. Of course, I immediately contacted the seller and bought the PS4. In my subjective opinion, this console is the most beautiful and refined in the PS4 series. I gave the console a simple cleaning and gathered my first impressions.

Although the PS4 has been around since 2014, thanks to the sea of categories of its exclusive games, I can say that now is the moment when you can enjoy gaming as cheaply as possible. Before buying the PS4, I didn't have a PlayStation account, so I decided to create one. What I saw upon my very first login was massive discounts on games I wanted to play but couldn't, such as The Last of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man, Days Gone, Uncharted, and others.

Of course, some of these games are available on personal computers, but let's compare: I bought the console for just $130, and the first game I decided to buy was The Last of Us, which cost only $9. There are games that cost much less, for example, Need for Speed and Mortal Kombat; buying them cost just $2 each. Yes, it's true. This depends on the region where your account is activated, but the basic price fluctuations are indeed like this. At this moment, Marvel's Spider-Man is selling for just $3. Due to this comparison, it's almost impossible today to buy a personal computer for around $150 that can play these games. Therefore, the PS4 is currently unrivaled for its price.

Despite all this, it's a PlayStation, and there are countless games on it. I advise you to wait for discounts, which are almost always available, and enjoy these exclusive or simply good games that the library is full of.

Of course, the one downside that can be considered a disadvantage of the PS4 is that its support is slowly but surely coming to an end. So far, nothing is known about what Sony plans to do regarding the PS4, but as long as support exists, you will, of course, be able to enjoy these games. And if support ends, you will most likely still be able to download your already purchased games, because you can't take away from a person what they have paid for.

Naturally, if you want to be more secure, you can buy plenty of physical PS4 discs, which is a big plus. Even though the graphics certainly fall short compared to the PS5, gaming isn't just about graphics; it's about gameplay, story, and simply enjoying the game. Also, the exclusive game UFC, which is impossible to play on a personal computer. The fourth part of UFC is available on PS4, and I was able to buy it on discount for $13; and this is an exclusive game.

In summary, I want to say that every dollar paid for it is truly worth it. Even though this console is already outdated, it doesn't show it and stands strong, and in terms of entertainment, it will certainly bring you many hours of fun.
