There was a time when this console was the ultimate dream for every gamer, even the casual ones. Upon its release, it was such a powerhouse that even the personal computers of that era struggled to keep up with its capabilities. Back when this PlayStation came out, gaming was heavily reliant on consoles.
Today, this might all sound a bit strange—we can now run games directly on our smart TVs. But back then, it was a completely different era. The PlayStation 3, Sony's third-generation console, established itself from the very beginning as a true Full HD gaming monster. Thanks to its incredible multifunctionality, it remains a beloved device for many gamers today.
Today, I want to talk specifically about the PlayStation 3, its hidden potential, and why a true gaming enthusiast should still own this console even today. If you are only interested in modern trends, ultra-realistic graphic worlds, and 4K visuals, this post might not be for you. But if you value gameplay, a unique storyline, and atmosphere above all else in a game, then this system will be a real discovery for you.
It's true that you won't find brand-new games on it (game releases for the PS3 stopped years ago), but in its massive library, you will discover masterpieces that you simply cannot play anywhere else. Its catalog sets you up for completely new, unforgettable adventures.
Why is it worth buying now? What you see in the photo is the PS3 Slim version, and I bought it for just $80. An incredible price, right? The bundle even came with two original controllers and one game disc. One of the greatest charms of these older games is that you can play split-screen with your friends. You won't need a constant internet connection for this at all—which is another huge plus for the PS3, since the "Couch Co-op" format is becoming increasingly rare in modern games.
In my specific case, I wanted to buy the PS3 Slim version so I could play PS3 games. However, there is the legendary PS3 Fat version, which I highly recommend, and I'll tell you exactly why. The very first release of the PS3 Fat, which you can easily recognize by the 4 USB ports on the front, came with 80 gigabytes of storage. There was nothing overly special about it except for one major thing: the PS3 Fat can play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games natively, making it a true ultimate console.
However, you will get immense pleasure from the PS3 Slim as well. You can get a massive amount of joy just from buying discs for pennies on the local market. The average price is sometimes less than $5 per disc, and with a good search, you will come across plenty of great titles. I recommend searching for Facebook groups in the city where you live, where you can often buy physical games very cheaply. This is also possible on eBay, but the prices there can sometimes be much higher. Of course, among the PS3 library, there are legendary collectible games whose prices are significantly higher. most people didn't know that you can play the last of us, uncharted, GTA V on playstation 3, yes and many more, yakuza 2, tekken, UFC and a lot exclusive games that i reccoment you to play, mostly focus on games that are not available on other consoles or PC platform, also there is plenty not really popular but extremely good games on that platform.
For me, this is a collector's model. It was specifically on the PS3 Slim that I first managed to perceive and appreciate the graphical pleasure of the PS3.
When buying one, I strongly advise having it cleaned or cleaning it yourself. After so many years, a lot of dust will have accumulated inside it. That is exactly what I did before adding it to my PlayStation collection, after all im not planning to resell it, it's my playstation family member. but is PS4 also worth in 2026? post is available here.
